eVisa
What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is the virtual equivalent of a traditional hardcopy visa, granted either out of country or in-country, which came in the form of a paper sticker (vignette) or plastic card (biometric residence permit). Hardcopy visas are being phased out and replaced with eVisas, which are accessible via smartphone. The transition is nearly complete and should be complete by the end of 2026.
Benefits of an eVisa
– Convenient online application process.
– No need to carry physical visa documents.
– Instant verification through your passport number.
– Faster approval process compared to traditional visas.
How to Apply for an eVisa
1. Visit the UK Government’s eVisa portal.
2. Complete the application form with personal details.
3. Receive a confirmation email with your eVisa approval details.
4. Your eVisa will be linked to your passport, allowing you entry or stay in the UK.
You also need access to a smartphone. This could be your own if you have one or of anyone else. You must download an application called the UK Immigration ID Check app. This Purple colour app is available for Apple and Android users on their respective Play/App Store. You will scan your ID document via this, and it will take your facial scan and a selfie.
Required Documents
- A valid passport.
- BRP card.

Processing Time
eVisa processing times may vary depending on the Home Office’s internal procedures and workload. However, most people are receiving instant access to their evisa.
